Overview: Ardfin is a modern architectural marvel perched on the rugged, remote southern tip of the Isle of Jura. It is one of the most spectacular and difficult-to-reach golf courses on earth, a high-drama journey along sheer clifftops and through ancient, peat-rich terrain. Designed by Bob Harrison, the course is a visual symphony of rocky chasms, narrow greens, and "infinity" edges that appear to drop directly into the Sound of Jura. With its minimal bunkering and its total reliance on the natural landscape for defense, Ardfin offers an elemental and intensely private playing experience where the beauty of the Inner Hebrides is matched only by the severity of the challenge.

History: The course was the vision of Greg Coffey, an Australian financier who sought to transform his private estate into a world-class golfing destination. The project was a massive engineering feat that required importing 24,000 tonnes of sand and soil to Jura’s rocky terrain. After six years of construction, the course opened for limited play in 2017. While it was originally an ultra-exclusive retreat for family and friends, it has recently opened to visitors who stay at the estate’s luxury boutique hotel, "The Quads." It remains a place of intense quiet and primeval beauty, where the history of the island and the power of the sea define every moment of the round.

Did You Know? The estate is home to a famous boathouse where, in 1994, the electronic music group The KLF famously burned £1 million in cash as a performance art piece; the structure now serves as the course’s halfway house. Ardfin is also home to a massive population of red deer that roam the fairways and the surrounding cliffs. The 12th hole is the course’s signature, a terrifying par-3 that requires a carry over a deep coastal chasm to a green perched on a rocky outcrop—a shot that perfectly captures the "edge of the world" feeling of Jura.
