Overview: Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society is an Edinburgh parkland course with one of the richest club histories in Scottish golf. The Barnton layout moves among mature trees, shaped fairways and characterful greens, combining a calm setting with a demanding series of strategic choices. Its architecture is layered rather than uniform, and the course’s appeal comes from the way successive generations of designers have refined the same natural ground.
History: The Society was founded in 1761 and later moved from the original Bruntsfield Links to its present Barnton home. Willie Park Jr. laid out the course, with later work by Alister MacKenzie, James Braid and Fred Hawtree. Mackenzie & Ebert led a major redevelopment in 2018, with the revised layout fully open in 2019 after new holes, rebuilt bunkers and a complete review of the course strategy.
Did You Know? Bruntsfield Links is recognised as the fourth-oldest golf club in the world. The Society also served as an Open qualifying venue between 2011 and 2015, linking its long club history with a modern championship role.
