Overview: Club de Golf La Zagaleta's Old Course is situated inside one of Europe's most secure, opulent, and ultra-exclusive residential estates in Benahavís, near Marbella, Spain. Designed by Brad Benz and nestled in the foothills of the Serranía de Ronda, this mountain course offers spectacular panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and Gibraltar, featuring dramatic elevation changes, fast sloping greens, and narrow fairways framed by wild olive and cork oak trees.
History: Opened in 1991 on the former private hunting estate of the infamous Saudi multi-millionaire Adnan Khashoggi, the club was developed with a vision of creating a pure, distraction-free sporting haven of ultimate prestige. To elevate its technical standards, the course underwent a comprehensive, multi-million-euro redesign in 2016 by Marc Westenborg of Hawtree Ltd, which overhauled all greens, bunkers, and irrigation systems.
Did You Know? The estate has its own private helipad and a resident herd of wild deer and mouflon sheep that roam the fairways and surrounding nature reserves, emphasizing the club's incredible focus on security, luxury, and ecological preservation.
