Overview: Experience the power of the north at De Compagnie. This true polder course in Groningen is defined by its massive scale, constant wind, and abundance of water. The greens are huge and multi-tiered, requiring careful approach play and even more careful putting. It’s a bold, open layout that makes you feel small against the expansive sky. Bring your wind-cheating shots and a determined spirit!
History: The course was originally laid out as a 9-hole design in 1989. In 2006, the course was expanded to 18 holes with the addition of 60 hectares, designed by landscape golf architect Gerard Jol, who integrated the layout into the surrounding estate and its existing water features. The clubhouse, housing the restaurant, golf shop, and other facilities, was also completed that year.
Did You Know? The name 'De Compagnie' refers to the historical peat-digging companies that literally carved the province of Groningen out of the swamp. The course’s water hazards are actually remnants of the old canal systems used for transport.
