County Louth (Baltray)

Overview: County Louth Golf Club, affectionately known as Baltray, is situated at the mouth of the River Boyne on the east coast of Ireland. The course is widely recognized as one of the country's most architecturally pure links layouts, offering a strategic test of golf. The routing naturally follows the undulating duneland, featuring broad fairways that lead to challenging green complexes designed to test creative shot-making in the coastal wind.

History: Founded in 1892, the club originally played on a rudimentary layout before moving to its current site. In 1938, the legendary architect Tom Simpson redesigned the course, establishing the routing and green complexes that remain largely intact today. Baltray has hosted major championships, including the Irish Open in 2004 and 2009.

Did You Know? During the 2009 Irish Open hosted at Baltray, then-amateur Shane Lowry made history by winning the tournament. He defeated professional Robert Rock in a sudden-death playoff, becoming only the third amateur to win a European Tour event, and the first ever to win the Irish Open as an amateur.
