Overview: Fairwood Park occupies a broad, comparatively level site on the Gower Peninsula, close to Swansea. The club describes its 18 holes as woodland and parkland golf, with mature trees defining much of the play and water affecting nearly half the holes. The fairways are generous in places, but a drive that strays into the trees can leave a difficult recovery, so the course rewards restraint as much as length. At about 6,658 yards, it offers a substantial inland round in a landscape often associated with coastal golf.
History: The course was established in 1969 and designed by the Hawtree practice, whose family business has worked in golf architecture across several generations. That attribution and date are given by the club itself. Fairwood’s current identity is tied to the established tree cover and parkland routing, rather than to a links layout. The club has also hosted Welsh PGA Championship events, placing its course in the tournament history of the Gower area without changing its everyday role as a local club.
Did You Know? Fairwood Park is described by the club as the flattest golf course on the Gower Peninsula, a useful distinction in a region where other courses can make elevation a major part of the round. Its extensive mature tree cover is another defining feature: the club estimates more than 15,000 trees across the property. Together, the relatively level ground and wooded corridors create a different experience from the open, wind-exposed golf often associated with coastal golf on the Gower Peninsula.
