Forfar

Overview: Forfar Golf Club features a classic parkland and heathland layout near Forfar in Angus, Scotland. The course is characterised by its distinctive undulating fairways, known locally as rig and furrow, which require careful stance adjustments and strategic approach shots. Mature trees line the fairways, and strategically placed bunkers protect the greens.

History: Founded in 1871, Forfar holds the distinction of being the first golf course in the world designed from its inception as an eighteen-hole layout. The original course was designed by Old Tom Morris, and it was later refined by James Braid in 1926 to eliminate crossing holes and modernise the strategic elements.

Did You Know? The undulating rig and furrow terrain of the course is a physical remnant of medieval strip farming that took place on the land centuries before it was used for golf. This gives the fairways a natural wave pattern.
