Overview: Formby is an 18-hole links in Formby on the Merseyside coast, where rolling dunes, mature pines, heather and views towards the Irish Sea create a distinctive mix of seaside and woodland golf. The natural setting gives the course sheltered, tree-lined passages as well as more exposed links holes, with undulating fairways and well-defended greens asking for varied shot-making.
History: Formby Golf Club was founded in 1884 at the instigation of John Bushby. Willie Park Jr established the original links in 1912, followed by course alterations by James Braid in 1922 and Harry Colt in 1933. Donald Steel remodelled the course in 1980 after extensive coastal erosion, part of the continuing work required to protect and refine this exposed links.
Did You Know? Formby has hosted an unusually broad sequence of major amateur and team events, including the Curtis Cup in 2004, the Arnold Palmer Cup in 2016 and the PGA Seniors Championship in 2021 and 2022. Its competition history sits alongside the club's long-standing links identity.
