Golfclub Heelsum (Airborne/Sandr)

Overview: Located in the rolling heathlands of Gelderland, Heelsum Golfclub features the 18-hole Airborne/Sandr course designed by Hans Hertzberger and Steve Marnoch. The layout is set on a highly sand-based, undulating landscape that features wide fairways framed by native heather, deep blowout bunkers, and large green complexes. Exposed to changing inland winds, the course demands strategic tee shot placement and creative short-game play.

History: Opened in 2002, the course was built on a historic site that played a central role in Operation Market Garden during World War II. The architects sculpted the undulating terrain to recreate a classic British heathland aesthetic while building a modern, ecologically sustainable public golf facility. The course has established a reputation for its excellent drainage and high-quality turf.

Did You Know? The course name "Airborne" is a proud tribute to the Allied paratroopers who landed on these very fields in September 1944. Several historic war memorials and military landing marker plaques are located near the club's modern clubhouse.
