Overview: JCB is a modern championship course in Staffordshire, built across mixed farm, parkland, woodland and lake landscapes beside the company’s world headquarters. Robin Hiseman’s routing uses water as a recurring strategic feature: early holes work around the restored Uttoxeter Canal, other fairways follow the Alders Brook, and the closing sequence builds towards the South Lake. It is bold, expansive and engineered, but still shaped around the natural estate.
History: The project was developed from Lord Bamford’s ambition to create a tournament-capable course on the Woodseat Hall estate. European Golf Design records the official opening in 2019 after a four-year construction process. The layout has quickly become a major event venue, hosting the Rose Ladies Series, the European Legends Tour and LIV Golf UK.
Did You Know? The island green at the par-three 17th was not in the original plan. Hiseman spotted an island in the South Lake and persuaded the project team to incorporate it into the routing, creating the course’s most recognisable finishing-stage feature.
