Liphook

Overview: Liphook is a sandy Hampshire heathland course with tight fairways, heather, gorse, pine and silver birch. From the championship tees it measures 6,523 yards and plays to par 70. The natural ground creates a firm, running course in which the best line from the tee matters more than a purely aggressive drive, and the subtly shaped greens reward careful approach play.

History: The course opened in 1922 and was designed by Arthur Croome, with later changes associated with Tom Simpson. More recent work has introduced new holes and adjusted the routing while aiming to preserve its strategic heathland character. The club describes Liphook as an early example of strategic inland design and records the course as having been recognised by the R&A soon after opening.

Did You Know? The modern course includes two newer holes at the eighth and ninth, while work around the tenth and eleventh follows an idea Tom Simpson had suggested decades earlier. The result is a course where historic and recent holes sit together without a sharp visual divide.
