Little Aston

Overview: Little Aston is a mature parkland course in Sutton Coldfield, set within the former Little Aston Park estate north of Birmingham. The routing uses gently rolling ground, woodland and open passages to create a composed, strategic test rather than a purely physical one. Bunkers are prominent and often have steep faces, while the fairways and green approaches reward a precise line from the tee and a well-controlled second shot.

History: The club was founded in 1908 after Harry Vardon was commissioned to turn part of the estate into a golf course. Later work, including Harry Colt’s influence, helped refine the layout while preserving the original character. Little Aston has since hosted major amateur events and professional tournaments, including the Brabazon Trophy and the predecessor of the modern European Tour’s flagship event.

Did You Know? Little Aston’s tournament history includes the English Amateur, the Brabazon Trophy and the 1951 Dunlop Tournament. The course also retains a distinctive ornamental putting green beside the clubhouse terrace, a small architectural detail that is easy to miss before a round.
