Overview: The Montgomerie Maxx Royal, located in Belek, Turkey, is a highly prestigious resort parkland course designed by Ryder Cup legend Colin Montgomerie. Winding through dense pine forests and over natural sand dunes, the course features a highly strategic layout characterized by massive sand waste areas, pristine lakes, and immaculate, fast-running green complexes. The design is highly celebrated for its tournament-ready championship test, requiring precise ball striking and a thoughtful strategy to navigate the rolling fairways and swirling breezes from the Mediterranean.
History: Opened in 2008, the Montgomerie course has played a pivotal role in establishing Belek as a premier international golf destination, famously hosting the Turkish Airlines Open on the European Tour. Montgomerie, in collaboration with European Golf Design, crafted the course to meet the highest tournament standards, featuring a unique routing with six par-3s, six par-4s, and six par-5s. It is also one of the few courses in Europe to offer a fully floodlit back nine, allowing golfers to play under the stars.
Did You Know? During the 2013 Turkish Airlines Open, French pro Victor Dubuisson famously saved an extraordinary par from a dense patch of ornamental cacti right next to the fairway, a miraculous shot that went viral and helped propel him to his maiden European Tour victory on this very course.
