Overview: Murcar Links is an exposed Championship Course on the Aberdeenshire coast, close enough to Royal Aberdeen for the two links to share the same broad coastal landscape. Dunes, gorse, elevated tees and firm fairways make the wind and approach angles more important than the scorecard length.
History: Murcar was founded in 1909 and the original layout was designed by Archie Simpson, then the professional and head greenkeeper at nearby Royal Aberdeen. James Braid and George Smith later altered the course, helping form the Championship routing played today.
Did You Know? The course reaches the shoreline at the par-5 fourth, a point where the sea becomes a direct part of the visual and strategic setting. Murcar’s closeness to Royal Aberdeen is so striking that golf writers have noted the two courses sit almost within each other’s range.
