Overview: Nairn’s Championship Course follows the Moray Firth at the edge of the Highlands, with the sea visible throughout a varied out-and-back links. The opening holes run close to the shore before the routing turns inland and climbs over firmer, more heath-like ground. Burns, gorse, pot bunkers and subtle greens reward controlled positioning in the prevailing wind.
History: Nairn was established in 1887 and the course was revised by Old Tom Morris in 1890, when the links were extended westward. James Braid later altered tees and bunkers and created new greens, leaving a major influence on the character of the Championship Course. Ben Sayers and later architects have made further improvements while retaining the traditional routing.
Did You Know? Nairn is one of only nine venues to have hosted the Walker Cup, Curtis Cup, Amateur Championship and Women’s Amateur Championship. Its championship record includes the 1999 Walker Cup, the 2012 Curtis Cup and the 2021 Amateur Championship.
