Peterhead

Overview: Peterhead’s Craigewan Links is a traditional North Sea course set among dunes beside the River Ugie. The exposed ground, sandy ridges and broad coastal views create a genuine Scottish links experience, with a choice of lines that can change dramatically when the wind moves. It is a course whose apparent openness can be deceptive: the dunes and natural contours shape the approach angles and recovery options.

History: Peterhead Golf Club was established in 1841, but the present Craigewan story began when Willie Park Jr. designed a nine-hole course on the site in 1892. That layout was extended to 18 holes in 1908, which is the date used here for the present full routing. The club later developed a second 18-hole course in 1923; that facility is now represented by the shorter New Course.

Did You Know? Peterhead’s club history makes it one of the oldest golf organisations in Scotland, while Craigewan is the more specific course identity used for the ranked profile. The dunes and river setting give the course a strong sense of place even before the North Sea wind is taken into account.
