Overview: Royal Ostend Golf Club, situated on the windswept dunes of the North Sea coast in De Haan, Belgium, is a historic and highly unique links course. As the only true seaside links course in Belgium, it offers a raw and deeply authentic playing experience characterized by firm, fast fescue fairways, deep pot bunkers, and the ever-present coastal winds. Winding through rolling sand dunes, the layout demands strategic precision and a mastery of the ground game to navigate the coastal breezes.
History: Founded in 1903, Royal Ostend holds a distinguished historical lineage, originally routed by Seymour Dunn to establish a premier championship venue. The club boasts a fascinating connection to Belgian royalty, as King Leopold II was a distinguished patron who heavily supported the club's development. The course was heavily damaged during both World Wars but was meticulously restored to its original links character, remaining the spiritual home of Belgian golf.
Did You Know? The course is situated on a narrow strip of land between the coastal dunes and a busy tramway, providing a highly unique and scenic backdrop to the game. The signature par-4 8th hole plays directly along the high ridge of the dunes, requiring a precise tee shot over a sea of sea-grass with the North Sea crashing just yards away.
