Southerness

Overview: Southerness is a remote Solway Coast links in Dumfries and Galloway. The level, walkable course plays to par 69 and reaches 6,735 yards from the championship tees. Its firm coastal ground, open wind and carefully spaced holes create a traditional links test in which the landscape stays visible and the wind can change the preferred line from one hole to the next.

History: The course is associated with architect Philip Mackenzie Ross and dates from the post-war development of golf at Southerness. The club has retained its open coastal setting and developed a full championship course with several tee options. Current official information distinguishes the championship, white, yellow and red cards, so the profile uses the championship yardage rather than mixing tee measurements.

Did You Know? Southerness is deliberately separated from large population centres, and the course remains surrounded by open Solway landscape rather than dense development. The sense of distance is part of the design experience, especially on a calm day when the flat terrain makes the coastal horizon unusually prominent.
