Overview: Tokyo Golf Club's current 18-hole course is in Sayama, Saitama, where Komyo Ohtani created a wooded championship layout that has since been refined by Gil Hanse. The routing moves through forested ground with deep bunkering and carefully shaped green complexes. Its character is strategic rather than theatrical, asking players to manage angles and recoveries while respecting the scale and placement of the hazards.
History: The club was founded in 1913, but the present Sayama course belongs to a later chapter. Tokyo Golf Club moved to Sayama in 1940, and the current course was officially opened on 7 April 1961 after an earlier advance opening. Gil Hanse was commissioned to redesign the course in 2009. In 2019, the club carried out a further renovation and clubhouse project.
Did You Know? The club's official history records two important earlier homes, Komazawa and Asaka, before the move to Sayama. The famous Alison bunkers associated with the Asaka course remain part of Tokyo Golf Club's historical identity even though that earlier site was later requisitioned.
