Overview: At Trump International Golf Links, the links profile for Trump International Golf Links is listed at 7428 yards and par 72. Martin Hawtree routed the fairways through enormous dunes beside Balmedie Beach, creating a sequence of elevated tees, dramatic valleys, revetted bunkers and wide North Sea views. The course is visually imposing but not merely theatrical: the dune ridges change the angle into the greens, and the safest route can be very different from the most obvious one. Wind, firm ground and the scale of the land make trajectory and position central to the round.
History: The original Old Course was designed by Martin Hawtree and launched in 2012 after a major development process on the Aberdeenshire coast. Hawtree’s stated approach was to work with the natural contours, and the completed course uses the existing dunes as its principal architectural material. A second New Course now sits alongside it, creating a 36-hole venue, but this profile refers to the original Old Course and its 2012 history. The distinction matters because the two routings have separate construction dates and identities.
Did You Know? The original course contains a quartet of par threes, each using the dunes and coastal views differently. The variety is one reason the layout can look dramatic without repeating the same type of short hole.
