Overview: Located near Utrecht in the Netherlands, this heathland course sits within a dense forest on undulating glacial sand. It features no water hazards; instead, challenges arise from natural slopes, heather valleys, and bunkering. The design emphasizes strategic subtlety over raw power, offering a quiet playing experience defined by thick stands of pine, oak, and birch that isolate each hole. Visitors must contact the caddiemaster directly to arrange tee times as online booking is unavailable.
History: Founded in 1894 as Doornsche Golfclub, the club moved to its current site in Bosch en Duin in 1929. Harry Colt designed the course, with the first nine holes opening on May 11, 1929. The clubhouse was designed by Mr Mertens and opened after a foundation stone laying in September 1928. Since 2005, architect Frank Pont has restored the original heathland character to preserve its historic layout.
Did You Know? The club is named after the mythological Greek god Pan, the deity of the wild and forest, with a bronze statue standing outside the clubhouse. Additionally, the course gained international recognition in 1967 when it hosted an episode of "Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf," showcasing its unique wooded seclusion to a global television audience. The name reflects the natural setting where players feel immersed in the surrounding woodland environment.
