Overview: West Cliffs, situated along Portugal's dramatic Silver Coast north of Lisbon, is a breathtaking modern links-style course designed by Cynthia Dye. Perched high on the coastal bluffs, the course offers sweeping, panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean from every single hole. Winding through rugged dunes, pine groves, and native coastal scrub, the layout is exceptionally tight and punishing, demanding precise ball striking and strategic thought to navigate the elevation changes and ocean winds.
History: Opened in 2017, the creation of West Cliffs was a monumental project that involved meticulously carving the fairways out of raw, untamed scrubland while preserving the native sand dunes. It represents Cynthia Dye’s (niece of Pete Dye) European masterpiece, incorporating her family's signature strategic design principles. Upon its opening, it immediately received universal critical acclaim, being hailed as one of the finest new courses in Europe.
Did You Know? The course was built with a deep commitment to environmental sustainability, preserving over 200 hectares of native coastal vegetation and utilizing a state-of-the-art irrigation system. The spectacular, modern clubhouse features floor-to-ceiling glass walls, offering views of the 18th green and the Atlantic Ocean.
