Overview: Worplesdon is a sandy Surrey heathland course at Woking, shaped by heather, pine, woodland and gentle undulations. The par 71 layout measures about 6,728 yards and uses a varied sequence of long and short holes rather than a single repeated rhythm. Bridley Pond is the main water feature, while the firm ground and open heather encourage a running style of play.
History: J.F. Abercromby laid out Worplesdon in 1908, with Willie Park Jr. constructing the greens and bunkers. The course has remained close to that original plan, although the club has carried out sympathetic heathland restoration and bunker work over time. Its long-running Mixed Foursomes competition, first played in 1921, became an important part of the club's sporting history.
Did You Know? Bridley Pond is the only major water hazard on the course. The tenth hole uses the pond as a visual and strategic feature, while most of the remaining holes rely on heathland contours, trees, heather and bunkering instead.
